In Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Viola and her twin brother Sebastian have been shipwrecked – one believes the other has drowned. Viola disguises herself as a young man named Cesario, and finds work as Duke Orsino’s servant. Orsino is in love with Countess Olivia, but she mourns for her dead brother and rejects all his proposals. Orsino sends Cesario/Viola to woo Olivia on his behalf… but Olivia falls in love with Viola/Cesario, while Viola has already fallen secretly in love with Duke Orsino. Viola’s brother, Sebastian, has been saved from the shipwreck. Antonio, a friend and protector of Sebastian, constantly professes his love for him
The execution of the erotic attraction that cannot be categorized by gender or norms becomes the main axis of the performance and is realized on stage through music: songs, vinyl records, song lyrics, narratives, sonnets of Shakespeare, love letters become the materials that speak of love. “I am falling in love – Interpretations on Twelfth Night” narrates desire itself, which appears uninvited and unexpected, in the most unsuitable place, at the most inappropriate moment, targeting the most unsuitable people. It does not obey any rules – social, cultural, or otherwise, and always resembles music
